Four Northville Seniors Receive Scholarship Awards

Rotary has long believed in advancing educational opportunities.  Over the years, Northville Rotarians have been giving monetary awards of varying amounts to Northville Central School seniors.  This year, four graduating seniors, Makayla LaPort, Ryann Morgan, Emma Peck, and Sophia Reidell were awarded checks for $1, 000 each to help with college expenses.  Applications were made and reviewed by the Northville Rotary Education Committee.  The awards are based on scholarship and service to the community in keeping with Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self”.

At our July 6th meeting, Education Committee chair, Bob Smith, introduced each of the award winners and noted their accomplishments in and out of school.  Makayla LaPort is valedictorian of the class of ’23.  She was active in student Council and served as Class President.  She participated in peer tutoring, conducted blood drives and helped with food drives.  Makayla will be attending Nazareth College and has been accepted in their Bio-medical program. In addition to maintaining a high academic average, Ryann Morgan served as class Vice President all four years.   She is an avid soccer player, helps with Little League Baseball, President of National Honor Society, and a member of SADD.  Ryann will be attending St. Rose and majoring in Childhood Education with a concentration in math. Emma Peck, Salutatorian of the class, played a number of sports, served as the class co-secretary, took a number of courses at FMCC in her senior year and a member of Phi Theta Kappa.  She will be finishing her two years at FMCC and then applying to 4 year colleges to finish a degree in Engineering and Management. Sophia Reidell, is a scholar athlete with both academic and athletic awards.  She managed the school store, treasurer of SADD, tutored younger students, helped at the food pantry and the Little League Concession stand.  Sophia plans to attend SUNY Cortland and obtain a Bachelor’s Degree.

Best wishes to all four award winners.  They will be excellent representatives of Northville!
